Katie Gillies Miller M.S. Student Zoology Dept. of Biological Sciences Idaho State University
A Taylor Story As a Research Scholar in 2002 pursuing a bachelors' in Wildlife Resources at U of Idaho, I came to Taylor Ranch Field Station to conduct bat surveys and habitat associations. I wrote a proposal and it was accepted. I did not know it would be the beginning of my career as a wildlife biologist.
After graduation, I worked for the Idaho Department of Fish & Game conducting bat and mine surveys and writing the Idaho Bat Conservation Plan for the state! I continued working for IDFG in various capacities for almost three years.
My unique experiences at Taylor Ranch well prepared me for a career in wildlife biology, and I hope future students are provided an opportunity such as the one I received.
Now, after two years in the field, I have decided to pursue my Master's degree. I am attending Idaho State University majoring in zoology. My project integrates field and laboratory methods to examine the ecological correlates of genetic structure in Townsend's big-eared bat in southeast Idaho. It's an exciting and interesting time for me. Upon completion of my degree, I hope to stay in Idaho and obtain a position as a non-game wildlife biologist for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, says, Katie Gillies Miller.
