Many students in the departments of Forest Products and Architecture have joined together and formed the UI Student Chapter of National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
The Chapter meetings provide students with the opportunity to gain an inside knowledge of the industry from guest speakers who provide valuable information concerning several aspects of wood building technology, including construction management, architectural design, state and county policies and regulations, and future employment in the industry. In addition to the meetings, the students gain hands-on experience while working on community projects, summer assistantships, and attending home shows. They built this playhouse. Members also have built two picnic shelters in a local county family park. The methods and results of this project may be viewed on the Gazebo page. At the recent Lewiston-Clarkston Home Show, the members raffled off a queen-sized bed that they constructed. They have also taken tours of various facilities to learn about different types of architecture used in construction in past and present eras.
Examples of NAHB projects are available here:

The UI Chapter is sponsored by the Lewis-Clark Building Contractors Association who have provided speakers, assisted in community projects, offered scholarships, summer job opportunities and internships. We appreciate their support and assistance.
