CNR  Scholarships and
Field Experiences

  

Incoming and continuing students majoring in Fisheries, Wildlife, Forest Products, Forest Resources, Ecology and Conservation Biology, Rangeland Ecology and Management, and Conservation Social Sciences (formerly Resource Recreation and Tourism) are automatically considered for all scholarships when enrolled by the priority deadline of Feb. 15 for the fall. Incoming students must apply for admission by the priority deadline of February 15 in order to be automatically considered.

All students are encouraged to indicate their active interest in a scholarship by sending a letter to their department, including career goals and reason for requesting scholarship assistance.

College Wide Scholarships are open to all eligible students (see linked announcements).  Successful applicants will be chosen by the CNR Scholarship Committee comprised of CNR department heads.

These individual awards will supplement student graduate and undergraduate field research opportunities. Note linked announcements.

Howard E. Ahlskog Scholarship  Sophomores, juniors, and seniors in CNR with 2.5 G.P.A.
Lawrence and Eleanor Arneson Scholarship  Undergraduates in CNR

Ted Bjornn Idaho Chapter of the American Fisheries Society Scholarship Annually sponsors two scholarships to support full time undergraduate and graduate students working toward a degree in aquatic resources or fisheries.
Bleak Taylor Ranch Wilderness Internship Wilderness internships are open to all upcoming juniors, seniors, and returning senior-level University of Idaho students.  Interns must be resourceful and self-motivated, enjoy physical work, and have enthusiasm for a variety of tasks both at the field station and in the field.  Interns must be able to work independently and with others and to deal with isolation from the outside world.
BMC West Scholarship Awarded to deserving students in Forest Products Business Management or Forest Products Wood Construction and Design.  Selected students should show leadership potential and proven scholastic ability.
Noy E. and Ruby J. Brackett Range Livestock Management Scholarship Full time enrollment in the Department of Rangeland Ecology and Management or in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.  Awarded on a basis of eligibility, career potential and financial need (as determined through a submitted FAFSA form).  Preference will be given to students that have demonstrated a strong interest in grazing management and the range livestock industry.

• Berklund Undergraduate Research Scholar Award

College-wide consideration
Special announcement		 The Curt and Adele Berklund Undergraduate Research Scholar Award encourages and recognizes undergraduate research in an applied field of natural resources.  Berklund awards may be used to fund a variety of faculty-supervised research activities.  Students are encouraged to participate in on-going faculty research projects in which the student assists a faculty member or graduate student with research in progress. All enrolled undergraduate students in the College of Natural Resources are eligible to apply for the one-year, $2,000 research awards.
Leonard and Ella Churchill Scholarship   Preference to students from Kellogg, Mullan, or Wallace, Idaho high schools.
CNR 75th Anniversary Scholarship  Undergraduates  in CNR.
Colwell Family Centennial Scholarship  Juniors and  seniors with financial need, academic achievement, and a high potential for leadership in forest products industry.
Charles A. Connaughton Scholarship  Undergraduates and graduate students in Forest Resources, Rangeland Ecology and Management, Conservation Social Sciences, Fish & Wildlife. Must be a U.S. citizenship to be eligible for this award.
John R. Dale Wood Technology Scholarship  Forest Products undergraduate student
DeVlieg Undergraduate Research Scholar Award
Special Announcement		 The DeVlieg Undergraduate Research Scholar program provides an “inquiry based” learning opportunity at Taylor Ranch Field Station for outstanding undergraduates in natural resources fields. All University of Idaho undergraduate students in the College of Natural Resources and other natural resources fields (except graduating seniors) are eligible to apply.  DeVlieg Undergrad Scholars write a scientific proposal of their research, conduct research in the wilderness, and report on results in a written report and oral presentation.

Special Announcement		 Award is given for research related to fish or wildlife resources in wilderness settings and is based on the merits of the proposed research or project, academic achievement, ability and leadership potential.
C. C. & Mary Davidson Scholarship  Graduate student with research in Wildlife under the Idaho Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Unit.
Eubanks Excellence  Scholarship  New out-of-state freshman or transfers with 3.0 GPA 
Experimental Forest Logging Crew Scholarship  Undergraduates and graduate students.  Must be a member of the UI Experimental Forest logging crew.
Tom & Eleanor Felton Scholarship  Sophomores, juniors, and seniors with G.P.A. of 2.75 in Fish & Wildlife Resources. Preference for Wildlife.
Forestry Class of '42 Scholarship  Undergraduates  who have a high potential for leadership.
Michael Frome Scholarship  Juniors, seniors, and graduate students with G.P.A. of 2.70. Preference given to students with a  major in Conservation Social Sciences. An essay on a topic in natural resource is required.
Douglas L. Gilbert Scholarship  Sophomores, juniors,  seniors, and graduate students. Undergraduates must have a G.P.A. of 2.4; 3.0 for  graduate students. Preference given to students with a major in Conservation Social Sciences and course work in Communications.
Brian K. Gilles Scholarship  Conservation Social Sciences undergraduate involved in college and university activities

Special Announcement		 Supplemental funding for professional field experience. Fish and Wildlife undergraduates following their sophomore or junior year.
Clinton Bradley Gross Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a Range student who shows leadership potential, ability, and love for the outdoors. Financial need is secondary.

 Jay and Jan Gruenfeld Endowment for Communications, Leadership and Teaching Excellence Purpose is to provide supplemental funding for high-achieving students to pursue a leadership career, participation in seminars, meetings, workshops, or undergraduate research with the need for financial assistance.  Involvement in extra-curricular activities in a leadership capacity is a consideration.
Roger L. Guernsey Forestry Scholarship Undergraduates and graduate students with five years of residence in Idaho. "Guernsey scholars" will be invited by Roger to plant a tree in the Scholar's Grove at Pinestia.
Robert C. Heller Scholarship  Undergraduates and graduate students. Preference given to students who emphasize remote sensing/aerial photo interpretation in their programs.
Clare and Myrtle Hendee, John Hendee and Fran Hendee Scholarship  Undergraduate and graduate students with financial need.
Ted Hoff Memorial Scholarship Juniors and seniors with financial need, demonstrated academic ability, and potential in Forest Products or Forest Resources.

Jonne M. Hower Honor Scholarship Undergraduate students interested in resource recreation, natural resources, or conservation
Kenneth E. Hungerford Scholarship Undergraduates in Wildlife who show promise for innovative research. Preference given  to juniors and seniors.
Idaho Bass Federation Memorial Scholarship  Any Fishery junior, senior, or graduate student with a GPA of 3.0. Study must emphasize warm-water fisheries. May be renewed a second year.
Idaho Chapter of American Fisheries Society Preference to members of the Idaho Chapter of the American Fisheries Society.
Idaho Section Range Management Society Scholarship  Undergraduates and graduate students with G.P.A.  of 2.70 in Rangeland Ecology and Management. Preference shall be given to students who show potential for achievement.

Special Announcement		 Undergraduates and graduate students. Preference given to students interested in conservation law enforcement. Incoming students may apply.
Dean Dwight Jeffers Scholarship Preference will be given to students who have completed their freshman year.  Financial need is a consideration.
Agnes M. Kelly and Alice Munson Memorial Scholarship Undergraduates in Forest Resources with academic and leadership skills.

Craig & Dorothy MacPhee Scholarship Senior with a G.P.A of 2.70 in Fisheries. Preference given to an Idaho high school graduate.
J.E. Martin Scholarship Juniors, seniors, and graduate students with a G.P.A. of 3.85 in Wildlife.
Eugene & Alice McHale Scholarship  Students with interest in parks/protected area management, natural resources conservation

Frank Pitkin Scholarship Juniors and seniors with G.P.A. of 2.8, and graduate students with a G.P.A. of 3.1 in Forest Resources and an emphasis on nursery/greenhouse management.
Bud and Ruth  Purdy Scholarship Undergraduates and graduates in Rangeland ecology and management; range livestock management

Riley Creek Lumber Scholarship Undergraduates and graduate students with ability and leadership potential. Preference given to students studying Forest Products, Forest Resources and Fisheries.
Society of American Foresters Diversity Scholarship Enrolled undergraduates or graduates by Oct. 2007 with an interest in forestry or natural resources as a career. Willingness to serve as diversity ambassador to help the diversity committee. Desire to encourage into the forestry profession a variety of people in terms of race, ethnic background, religion, age, gender and disabilities as well as the diversity of geography, employer groups, philosophies and career choices.
