The University of Idaho's McCall Field Campus is a residential education and conference facility located on Payette Lake in McCall, Idaho. Owned and operated by the University of Idaho's College of Natural Resources, the McCall Field Campus is an ideal location for groups wishing to host conferences, meetings, courses and community events in a relaxed, natural setting with well-equipped facilities, professional hospitality, and an excellent food service. The McCall Field Campus is a great place for groups to gather and learn.
|
The McCall Field Campus mission is to enhance the University of Idaho's land-grant mission of education, research, and outreach. The McCall Field Campus serves as a residential learning center that promotes nonpartisan inquiry and understanding of natural resource and environmental issues and the challenges facing Idaho and the American West. The Field Campus, and its partners, foster scientific literacy, enlightened leadership, and open minded dialogue through seminars, policy programs, conferences, leadership development initiatives, graduate and professional education programs, and youth science education programs. |
The McCall Field Campus is home to the McCall Outdoor Science School (MOSS) nine months out of the year. MOSS was founded in 2001 as a partnership between the University of Idaho’s College of Natural Resources and the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute. It instantly became the only publicly operated K-12 residential outdoor school in the entire state of Idaho. The mission is to advance academic achievement through a strong, statewide K-12 University partnership.
Focusing on 5th and 6th grade classrooms, the 3-5 day residencies use the outdoor environment as an integrated context for learning. A hands-on approach to scientific discovery highlighting the relationships between biological, physical, and social systems is encouraged.
The goal of MOSS is continued development of a year-round education and resource facility that:
* Links its programs to Idaho Academic Achievement Standards.
* Offers a unique place in which students participate in hands-on projects and
outdoor field activities that appeal to different learning styles.
* Helps students understand key scientific and ecological principles.
* Develops an understanding of the natural and cultural history of Idaho
ecosystems.
* Provides teachers with a model for integrating interdisciplinary teaching tools in
the classroom.
* Provides the next generation of educators with practical, field teaching
experience
* Links UI research and academic programs with Idaho K-12 schools and
partnering agencies.
