Career Tracks – Aquatic & Riparian Ecology
Water supply, water quality and the biological integrity of our aquatic habitats are increasingly important issues globally, and particularly in the Pacific Northwest. Students who pursue this career track will graduate well-versed in the aquatic sciences and can find themselves marketable for a tremendous number of careers in the public and privates sectors. Designing an undergraduate curriculum that includes the following courses would allow a graduate to seek careers in diverse fields related to aquatic habitat assessment, riparian restoration or fish ecology technician.
An individual majoring in ECB could take a number of courses that would nicely prepare themselves for a career in one of several types of positions. The positions for which this individual would then be qualified include:
- Environmental and aquatic consultant
Laboratory or Field technician
Additionally, these individuals would be qualified to further their education in broad graduate programs in Ecology & Conservation Biology, as well as more specialized programs in Aquatic Ecology, Fisheries ecology and management, and Riparian ecology and management.
