 Graduate-level certificate programs can be taken to augment a student's MNR education; they include the Restoration Ecology Certificate, which is offered entirely on-line; the Fire Ecology Certificate, which can be taken entirely on-line; and the Wilderness Management Distance Education program from University of Montana, which can be taken entirely on-line. Out-of-state tuition is not charged for the University of Idaho certificate programs.
Each of these certificate programs can be taken on their own, without the MNR.
Graduate Residency in Environmental Education (GREE). This 15-credit certificate program involves one semester of training, leading to a University of Idaho Graduate Certificate in Environmental Education. It is offered through the University of Idaho. The courses are offered at the beautiful UI McCall Outdoor Science School in McCall, Idaho.

Fire Ecology and Management Certificate A 15-credit, post-Bachelor program, this certificate program is offered at the University of Idaho. This certificate provides students with an application of knowledge in fire ecology, management and technology, including prescribed burning and applications to natural resource issues and management. A choice of classes offered in 4 "bins" provides some flexibility for the student. Some courses in this Fire Certificate are common to the MNR, and a student can "double dip."
The Restoration Ecology Certificate This 14-credit certificate program is offered entirely on-line. The Restoration Ecology Certificate provides background and depth in the concepts and tools currently used in restoration ecology. All of the Restoration Ecology Certificate courses are already included as courses fulfilling the MNR degree.

The Wildnerness Management Distance Education Program This 14-credit certificate program is offered from the University of Montana. It can be taken on-line or by correspondence. (See their website for more information). This program provides greater understanding of the wilderness resource and issues surrounding its management. Included topics are philosophy, ecology, recreation and planning. Required courses are:

The GIS graduate level certificate, offered on campus from the University of Idaho, Dept of Geography. A new opportunity to enhance your educational foundation in geographical information systems (GIS) or to strengthen your GIS credentials is now possible through the GIS Certificate Program in the Department of Geography. GIS is the computer technology that uses digital information about earth surface features and location patterns to produce useful maps and analytical solutions to complex problems in physical, environmental, social, and economic sciences. Applications of GIS have expanded continuously during the past decade and GIS software has become very powerful, enabling complex problem solving in a wide variety of public and private sector settings worldwide.
