Restoration Ecology Certificate
Introduction
Three easy steps to enroll in the certificate program!
Fees - Out-of-State Tuition Fees are waived for this program. Additional fees may apply as specified by program director.
The Restoration Ecology Certificate provides background and depth in the concepts and tools currently used in restoration ecology. It consists of five courses (14 credits), which are available over the Internet. The first four courses may be taken in any order, but the capstone course, Practicum in Restoration Ecology, CSS 580, requires Range 440 Restoration Ecology ( 3 cr.) and one of the following: Fish 540 Wetland Restoration (3 cr.), For 426 Wildland Fire Management and Ecology (3 cr) on campus or on line, For 526, Fire Ecology (3cr-offered in the classroom)and CSS 572 Human Dimensions in Restoration Ecology (3 cr.). With graduate committee approval, graduate students may include the certificate courses as part of their study plan. Nondegree students can enhance their knowledge in this area without seeking a graduate degree, and simultaneously build a strong foundation for a master's degree at a future date. (Nondegree seeking students are defined as those who may or may not have a previous BS degree and are not seeking a degree at UI at this time).
Prior to starting work on the four Restoration Ecology Certificate 500-level courses, students must have completed an undergraduate degree in a related field from an accredited institution with a GPA of at least 2.8 or receive permission from the College of Graduate Studies. All students must meet the prerequisites specified in each course, or receive special permission by the course instructor. (If you are missing a required general ecology class, we suggest enrolling in Ecology online).
